CSA MEMBERSHIP
Be a Living Kitchen Winter CSA Member!

What is a “CSA”? Community supported agriculture is a relationship of mutual support and commitment between local farmers and community members who pay the farmer an annual membership fee to cover the production costs of the farm. In turn, members receive a weekly share of the harvest during the local growing season. The arrangement guarantees the farmer financial support and enables many small to moderate scale organic and/or bio-intensive family farms to remain in business.

The word “member” doesn’t really do justice to define what a CSA member is to us, and that is partners. Living Kitchen Farm and Dairy could not exist without families like you willing to take a chance by literally paying us money before even seeing a sprout. The faith you put in us not only inspires us and drives us to be the best we can be but ultimately allows us to operate as a viable farm, even in the winter. We see our CSA families as partners working together to provide pure, wholesome, healthy food with integrity and passion

We are tremendously excited to be making the big move this month to our new farm. Inter woven into 400 acres, we will now be growing our crops using five acres rather than the half acre we have been growing on at the old place. What this means to you is much more selection and quantity of the things you really love. Having more space and really nice soil also allows us to take advantage of one of the best growing seasons here in Oklahoma and that is fall and winter. Yes I said winter. Believe it or not spring in Oklahoma is hard for a farmer. You’ve got your late freezes, rain, hail, and wind. Winter offers cold yet sunny days free of possible tornadoes and pounding hail. Although winter does present challenges, many can be overcome with simple crop protection practices. This fall we will be constructing and growing in a 14’X60’ high tunnel, this provides plenty of light while maintaining an ideal temperature for cabbage, broccoli, lettuces, etc. We will also be growing rows of cool weather crops like beets, carrots, turnips and more using a row fabric that protects crops from freezing and frost.  This is awesome!

We are offering a winter CSA. Because it’s our first time growing on this land, we will only be taking 15 “partners” We’ll make a weekly drop off in Tulsa.  A typical winter CSA will offer: Goat milk and cheese, yogurt, eggs, lettuce, spinach, kale, chard, broccoli, cabbage, turnips, beets, carrots, and more.  The cost is $250.00 we expect to start early to mid October (this is when the farmers market wraps up) and finish in February, so about 20 weeks. After that we’ll be starting on spring and summer crops and will go back to our normal CSA.  Any balance left over can be applied to your regular CSA. Also CSA partners receive a 10% discount!

The benefits of supporting a CSA:
Encourages proper land stewardship by supporting farmers in transition toward low or no chemical inputs and utilization of energy saving technologies.
Strengthens local economies by keeping food dollars in local communities.
Directly links producers with consumers allowing people to have a personal connection with their food and the land on which it was produced.
Makes nutritious, affordable, wholesome foods accessible and widely available to community members.
Creates an atmosphere for learning about non-conventional agricultural, animal husbandry, and alternative energy systems not only to the farmers and their apprentices, but also to members of the community, to educators from many fields of study, and to students of all ages.

We hope you will consider partnering with us this winter.  And please recruit your friends! Our goal is to have all 15 partners by August 30th!

Your personal farmers, Lisa and Kasey
